The New Central Library is a Marketers Dream

The New Central Library, located just east of City Hall in East Village, is 240,000 square feet of functional, flexible and beautifully designed space.

Although almost open for a month now, I finally got the chance to see it with my own eyes while attending the Social School Calgary conference on November 28th. And I must admit, I was blown away!

Spaces and Places

I spent the better part of the day in The Performance Hall – a stunning amphitheatre that fits 300+ people comfortably, equipped with state-of-the-art technology seamlessly built right in. And best part, it’s available to rent at a $160/hour rate (or the $60/hour non-for-profit rate). As a Marketing Director for a company with over 300 operations leaders and tasked with planning and executing operations team gatherings; I was giddy with excitement at the thought of hosting our next leadership summit in this beautiful space.

But if large events are not your thing, The New Central Library also has over 30 meetings rooms for rent, for free with your Library card, with everything you need – whiteboards, electrical outlets, AV connections and displays, and can accommodate small and large group sizes. As I did a quick tour of the Library at the end the Social School conference, and as I was gliding through the space in awe, I could visualize myself using so much of it. Creative brainstorming sessions with my team, a quiet and inspiring spot for solo research and writing, a central spot to meet with my mentor, or somewhere to run away to when the creative confines of the office feel too strong or the office noise is just too distracting.

Access to Technology

If all this isn’t impressing you so far (are you even human?!), the cherry on top for me has to be the Audio Recording, Video Recording, and Post-Production Studios available – I know, mind blown! I didn’t know I had a need for this type of space until it became something available to me. All of a sudden recording a Podcast or filming a YouTube series against a green screen became something accessible and free and very, very intriguing.

I can’t even imagine how thrilled the content marketers and lifestyle influencers in Calgary are with the endless opportunities the Library has given them. The Library in itself is an Instragram paradise, with all the angles and light. It’s an architectural dream with every curve of it as the backdrop for stunning content and even at the forefront as the star.   

So, the next time you want to inspire your team by getting out of your stuffy meeting room or you want to impress a client with a state-of-the-art meeting space, the New Central Library should be at the top of your list.
