The YW Internal Communications Specialist works across the organization to curate opportunities to connect teams and employees while championing and affecting team and individual engagement. This cross‐functional role is a key component in YW’s focus on the health and well‐being of our employees. This role will work closely with all program and support service teams to strengthen YW Calgary’s intention to be a workplace of choice.

  • Create a variety of impactful, consistent and transparent communications, interactions and engagement throughout the organization, with particular attention to process and approach based on an ever‐evolving Internal Communications Framework
  • Plan, implement and manage selected online tools that foster collaboration and engagement
  • Plan, organize, coordinate and/or support internal events and activities that inspire participation and enhance organizational brand, values and culture
  • Help to build YW Calgary’s reputation in the community and throughout YW teams by facilitating and embedding a culture of service excellence and engagement
  • Lead, champion and partner in the development, implementation and results analysis of internal communications & engagement initiatives
  • Understand the diverse needs and methods of effective communication and recommend best practice, relevant methodologies and social platform/technologies to achieve greatest impact
  • Ensures all activities are accomplished with an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion lens
  • Engage leaders and employees at all levels in content and usage of YWeb, Teams and other online communication and productivity tools with current & accurate content
  • Continually assess and investigate options to increase communication and engagement opportunities through online tools


  • Post‐Secondary education, with a focus on Communications, Internal Engagement or Public Relations
  • Three to five years of experience in a related field
  • Demonstrated passion for engagement, event planning and the work of YW
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional poise and confidence to interact with multiple internal audiences and levels of organization, including senior management
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all work
  • Ability to translate diverse, complex and ambiguous ideas into compelling messaging
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including PowerPoint and Excel; experience with Photoshop, InDesign and/or Illustrator is a plus
  • Primarily office‐based work; hybrid work opportunities; some on‐site support involving light lifting during event times

This is a permanent full‐time position working 37.5 hours/week; Monday to Friday with some evening and weekend work as needed during event times
